Nockolds

Nockolds Solicitors is a long established law firm with offices in Bishop’s Stortford and London. The firm has 13 partners and over 130 members of staff. Nockolds Solicitors’ roots trace back to 1831. What does that say about us? That we are a well-established, highly recommended law firm that has provided quality legal advice and services for over 180 years. A great deal has happened in the world since 1831 and Nockolds has kept ahead of the changing times during this period growing in size and stature and becoming, by the 21st century, an award winning law practice focussing on what really matters, our clients and our people. Our Lexcel Quality mark, our numerous listings in the ‘Legal 500’ and ‘Chambers & Partners’, the two legal directories of who’s who in the law, our Gold Investors in People award and inclusion in the Sunday Times’ 100 Best Small Companies to Work for Award reflect the firm that we have now become.

In addition to ensuring that we are strong in key areas such as business services, property, private client and many different types of dispute resolution and litigation, Nockolds is responsive to our clients’ needs and our continued expansion has included adding niche and specialised legal services. We are proud to work locally, nationally and internationally and our London office, centrally located in The City, offers flexibility and convenience for our ever expanding client base.

Our clients receive a personal and tailored service, whether you are an individual, a small to medium enterprise or a large corporation. You will find our teams at Nockolds to be professional, efficient and people friendly. Our focus is on you, your business and meeting your expectations – this is what clients expect from us and this is what we deliver.

As a trainee at Nockolds you will work across a number of different parts of our business and we encourage and invite ideas on new ways of working so, as a business, we can constantly improve. The support network you build internally and externally with colleagues and clients is critical to how you learn and develop and we encourage you to build and maintain these relationships throughout a career with us, working together as one team. Training and Prospects Trainee solicitors are part of our professional team and fundamental to the future progress of the firm. Initiative is expected and rewarded, and subject to ability trainees will be entrusted with responsibility. On appointment a trainee is attached to a Partner, and during training will spend six months in each of four different departments, thus gaining a wide variety of legal experience. Salaries are reviewed every six months through the training period and trainees are entitled to 21 days paid holiday a year in addition to public holidays. Additional benefits include participation in the firm’s pension, death in service and healthcare schemes. Although we make no formal commitment at the outset – nor ask for one – we encourage proven trainees to remain with us after training. We regard our trainees as the main source for our solicitors, and, indeed, future Partners. Many of our present Solicitors, Associates, Principal Associates and Partners trained with the firm. Who Should Apply? We have a reputation for excellence based on the high calibre of our staff and a rigorous on-going recruitment process. Every year we review many applications, and short-list approximately 15 candidates for interview. From these we will eventually appoint two or three trainees a year. We are looking for graduates with a minimum 2:1 degree in any discipline and with excellent ‘A’ levels who aspire to be Partners and who are ambitious, highly motivated and positively welcome a professional challenge. All applicants should be personable, self-confident and able to inspire confidence in clients. They should also demonstrate the intellectual rigour and strength of character necessary to establish a firm foundation for a successful career. Application Process We hold interviews for prospective trainees 12 months in advance of employment. Applicants for training contracts should bear this in mind when applying. First interviews will be held in October with the HR Manager and three Partners. They will consist of a formal interview and presentation exercises. Successful candidates will then be invited to spend a week in the firm where they will be assessed on their legal knowledge and working practices.
