Overview of the Financial Services Group:

The Financial Services Group is part of the Financial Markets international practice group and undertakes work primarily of relevance to clients in the Asset Management & Investment Funds and Financial Institutions sectors.

The group acts for a wide variety of sell-side investment banks and buy-side asset managers, focusing on all issues relating to the establishment, structuring and ongoing business operations of funds and their managers (including the drafting and negotiation of trading documentation), as well as advising on domestic and cross-border financial regulatory issues of relevance to both the sell-side and buy-side. The group is home to the firm's market-leading hedge fund practice.

The role:

This role is to deliver knowhow and professional support services to the Financial Services group in London and across the network. You will be required to originate, manage and deliver specific projects and strategic initiatives, as well as delivering/overseeing day-to-day updating, source-monitoring and reporting, as well as the maintenance of innovative online services.

 

Working closely with partners and senior fee earners within the FS Group, you will deliver high quality knowhow and professional support services, adding value to our client offering. You will actively supporting the FS partners in the development of the international practice, taking responsibility for the delivery of high-quality materials and information. In short summary, you will be:

 

  • Innovative and Creative: Working with the objective of developing our market-leading FS practice, you will originate ideas and initiatives to deliver high-value content to both internal and external audiences.
  • Organised and Efficient: Working under the lead PSL, Matthew Jones, you will be responsible for management of the more junior team and of fee earners working on the projects under your control. You will use the team’s resources effectively to deliver high quality projects/content within agreed deadlines.
  • Responsible and Conscientious: You will take responsibility for the delivery of the projects under your control, achieving the required scope promptly and to time.

 

Remit of the role

 

Your role will include:

 

Client-facing knowhow, professional support and training

 

  • Identifying opportunities to support and add value to our client relationships through knowhow, including drafting/arranging production of thought leadership content.
  • Drafting legal updates and topical articles that can be used for client distribution, publishing in journals, on elexica (our online events, training and know-how website) and elsewhere.
  • Identifying opportunities to deliver seminars, briefings and in-house training to build external client relationships and to build the IP practice’s profile and showcase its expertise. Working with colleagues to realise these opportunities.
  • Supporting the FS Marketing Executive and others as needed to contribute to drafting of pitches, proposals and experience statements.

 

Internal knowhow, professional support and training

 

  • Developing and delivering the annual FS knowhow and training plan, taking into account the wider International Dispute Resolution Practice Group and Knowledge Management business plans.
  • Drafting and maintaining standard documents, practice notes and checklists, prioritised to support core products and services of the FS practice group.
  • Liaising with information services staff to ensure procurement of appropriate online services, books, periodicals and journals.
  • Encouraging / fostering an effective knowledge sharing culture across the FS practice group.

 

Legal updates, current awareness and research

 

  • Monitoring relevant legal and market developments, and advising the FS practice group of developments or trends affecting the practice or its clients.
  • Leveraging PLC as the base current awareness offering, adding analysis and commentary as needed to give context and depth to the firm and the practice.
  • Providing high quality research services and, where appropriate, co-ordinating the distribution of research to trainees and junior lawyers.

 

Key Relationships:

 

  • Day to day interaction with the partners, associates, attorneys, trainees and FS Marketing Executive within the FS practice group in London.
  • Periodic interaction with partners and associates within the FS International Practice Group in other offices and with PSL’s, marketing personnel and fee earners involved with the firm’s key sectors and other practice groups.
  • Periodic contact with members of the Central Knowledge Management team, the Information Services and other Business Services staff.

 

Person specification:

 

  • Excellent academics.
  • Ideally 3 to 5 years’ post qualification experience within the financial services market, gained at another leading City practice.
  • Strong client focus with an ability and willingness to get actively involved in marketing and business development.
  • Commercially driven.
  • Effective, responsible and conscientious. Must be able to demonstrate ability to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
