Job Description

Vacancy Description

Tax Associate - London

Tax Associate - London

Level of role      Associate

Division               Tax, Corporate and Commercial

Location              London

The Firm

We stand out for being consistently excellent in advice: we not only provide technical excellence and experience but crucially, we also demonstrate real insight into our clients and what really matters to them. Our knowledge of our chosen sectors and markets, and our investment in our client relationships set us apart. We are a natural choice for FTSE100 and other "bold and beautiful" clients.

The Group

Based within the Corporate and Commercial Division, our five-partner tax team works across all three UK offices providing tax advice and support across the firm. We operate as a single team and work is shared, giving associates the opportunity to work with, and learn from, all five partners.

The team advises a wide range of clients, from entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses to FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies.  We act across the full gamut of tax issues, majoring on support for significant corporate, private equity and real estate transactions, but also providing banking and project finance, financial services and restructuring tax advice.

The Role

We are looking for a mid-level lawyer who can carry out effective, risk managed and profitable work for a range of different clients.

You will be technically efficient and reliable, and will be expected to perform efficiently and to a high technical standard as client delivery and transaction values are key to this role.  You will be expected to identify areas of risk and thus opportunities for further advice.  You will have direct contact with our internal clients and, where appropriate, some of our external clients.

You will be working on corporate and real estate transactions in particular, but will also support other teams carrying out a wide variety of work.  This will include document review, production and amendment, SPA reviews and corporate /real estate queries generally.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

To be able to advise at the level required in this role, we expect that you will have gained a minimum of two years' post qualification experience or equivalent in a comparable tax practice and will have gained a solid depth of understanding in UK corporate tax law, ideally advising on a range of different transactions.  You may have gained some experience in-house or in an accountancy practice, but the majority of your experience should have been based in a law firm.  Experience of international and cross-border work is desirable but not a pre-requisite.

Our ideal candidate should have a keen intellect and a commercial mindset. You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to provide pragmatic, robust and tailored advice in a way that supports internal and external clients alike.  We are interested in candidates who demonstrate the following attributes:

►    The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed.

►    The ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally).

►    A proven record of a high standard of client care for existing clients at the highest level.

►    The enthusiasm to market to clients.

►    Detailed knowledge of key areas of the law, demonstrated by providing clear, precise, and practical advice.

Addleshaw Goddard has a strong reputation for providing Associates with early levels of responsibility within a supportive, stretching environment and so anyone taking up this role can expect to have a significant part in the team.  The ability and desire to take the initiative when required will be particularly important..

The successful candidate will have:

►    Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent

►    At least two years' post qualification experience in a comparable tax practice

►    Strong commercial awareness

►    Excellent organisation skills

►    Proven team working abilities
