The Group

Located within the Real Estate Division, the Planning group currently operates nationally with presence in London, Leeds and Scotland. The team currently consists of four partners and five other fee-earners and has ambitious plans to further grow their reach. Indeed they will shortly be adding two further Planning lawyers into the Manchester office which is an exciting opportunity for the team and demonstrates their commitment to the growth of the team and it’s expertise. This role will be to join this team in Manchester whilst working closely with the national team providing excellent exposure to a wide range of matters and clients. The work of the group is of excellent quality, varied and involves providing comprehensive and pro-active advice on the full range of planning issues, with particular emphasis on projects in the housing, regeneration, energy and transport sectors. 

The Role 

We're looking for Lawyers to work on a broad spread of planning matters. You will be part of a close team and will work closely together across all four offices for a range of clients that are key to the firm including: developers, major retailers, large utility companies, various corporate organisations and local authorities. 

We are open to applicants at various stages in their career and therefore are keen to speak to candidates seeking a role in a Planning team on qualification or those who have already gained some post qualification experience but are seeking their next challenge - looking to make a step up into a busy, high performing and cohesive team. Candidates should have strong academics and a minimum of 6 months planning experience at a City or leading national practice. You may also have experience of working in town and county planning or local government. 

You will handle your own matters, with supervision, and assist the Partners and Managing Associates on more complex matters. At this stage in your career the team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development therefore offering excellent prospects for career development. 

Along with excellent communication skills, we are seeking candidates with a good grounding in planning law, a willingness to learn and develop commercial awareness, good social skills and plenty of drive and enthusiasm to help us to provide an excellent client service. In addition to this you should be able to demonstrate you are able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, challenging environment, where you will be required to meet tight deadlines. 


 As well as the above skills and competencies required, you will have:  
  • excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree   
  • clear understanding of the operation and structure of a top law firm   
  • ability to achieve continuous improvement and development
