Overview of the Vacancy

We are looking to recruit a 2-3 year pqe Dispute Resolution Solicitor who is a contentious probate practitioner to join and help to develop our established Dispute Resolution team in our Guildford office. 

 Job Description

  • To assist the department as a whole in meeting its fee earning targets by providing help regarding advice and assistance to clients of the Department as well as other Departments of the Firm.

  • Conduct of matters on behalf of clients

  • Management of support services for which (s)he is responsible, including supervision of own secretary if appropriate

  • Participation in marketing activities whether on a firm-wide, departmental or office basis

  • To utilise skills of any Department Trainee and to assist with the Trainee’s training

  • Financial control with particular regard to cash-flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures

  • To participate fully in the activities of the team

  • To assist during the absence of other fee earners

  • Carrying out work outside of normal hours where the work requires this

  • Travelling to client meetings both in and outside the UK when required

  • Promoting good file management

  • Formulating and advancing internal procedures

  • Undertake other duties as from time to time required

  • To ensure compliance with Lexcel and other regulatory procedures

Qualifications

 A good honours degree

 Essential personal qualities and attributes

  • Competence in chosen area of law and practice

  • Display a sound knowledge of and have experience in contentious probate work

  • Have a minimum of 2 yrs.’ PQE

  • Seek to achieve targets set for an Assistant Solicitor (or Associate Solicitor) in respect of chargeable hours, fees, recovery rate, lock-up and non-chargeable time

  • Develops and maintains a client/referrer base

  • Understands and undertakes proper referral of work to relevant departments and development of work for other departments

  • Shows willingness to be involved in activities of the firm outside of work within the department to which the individual is assigned

  • Where appropriate, supervises junior members of staff

  • Recognises the importance of practice development and willingness to become involved

  • When requested, become involved in activities of the Firm outside of those of normal work

    • Relations with other solicitors

Desirable skills, knowledge and abilities (Competencies)

  • Prior knowledge of Evolution or other office management systems

  • Prior knowledge of Lexcel requirements
