Job Introduction

We are recruiting for a Competition Solicitor or Associate to join our team in Manchester. This team sits within the wider Commercial Services Group, working closely with key clients to help them through the ever increasing amount of regulation, enabling them to balance risk with opportunity.

The Competition team supports a number of leading national and international household names, FTSE-listed companies, public sector organisations and government departments advising on all kinds of competition related work. The hiring partner  specialises in all areas of competition law, with a focus on behavioural advice, merger control (UK and EU), investigations and compliance programmes/training. We are seeking to recruit a driven, client-focused lawyer to support the continued growth of the competition team and progress their own career path in a genuinely supportive and collegiate environment. 

TLT operates national service lines and the role can be based from the Bristol, London or Manchester offices.

Role Responsibility

Once you are in the role of Solicitor you will deliver the following:

  • Provide key clients with insightful and commercial competition law advice.
  • The ability to deliver this advice alongside general commercial legal advice would be an advantage, as would industry/advisory experience within the financial services (incl. fintech), automotive, retail/FMCG, energy and telecomms/media space.
  • Managing complex competition matters including investigations, behavioural advice and merger notifications, as well as leading on discrete projects.
  • Assist in the development of the Competition team in line with the current and predicted growth of the firm and the Competition team business plan, to which you will be encouraged to contribute your ideas openly and constructively on an ongoing basis. 
  • Where appropriate, you will support or lead business development initiatives building upon existing relationships and winning new clients.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An experienced  lawyer with a minimum of 3 years PQE gained within a reputable firm.
  • Good knowledge of/experience in all competition law matters (investigations, competition litigation, merger control, state aid etc.).
  • Familiarity with/Ability to advise on general commercial work ideally, i.e. commercial contracts, distribution arrangements, franchising, etc.
  • Self-motivated, approachable and able to demonstrate real initiative.
  • Highly adept at supporting and leading business development initiatives; a proven track record of/genuine commitment to winning and retaining clients.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn and advise clients on new areas of work
  • Demonstrable experience of advising clients/working in one or more of TLT's core sectors, i.e. retail & consumer goods; financial services; energy & renewables; technology, media and telecoms; leisure; public sector; or housing.
