Job Introduction

We are recruiting for a Technology and IP Solicitor to join our Commercial team in Manchester. TLT's Technology and IP team is a national specialist technology and intellectual property practice advising organisations in our chosen sectors.

Amongst other work we will advise on the development, exploitation and protection of new technologies and related IP and the procurement of IT systems and services and related dispute resolution. We particularly work with clients in the financial services, retail, energy, TMT and public sectors. Our understanding of those industries, combined with knowledge of new technologies and of the legal issues surrounding them has been key to our development.

Through our national service lines you will work with notable clients and become a sector specialist. You will receive bespoke training throughout your career ensuring you have the technical and commercial skills to build an effective and successful practice

Role Responsibility

Once you are in the role of Solicitor you will deliver the following:

  • Draft and negotiate the full range of IT and related contracts undertaken by the team, including:
  • IT managed services and outsourcing agreements;
  • Software licensing and support arrangements;
  • Hardware supply and maintenance;
  • Hosting and cloud based solutions;
  • Data processing and security arrangements;
  • Technology development and licensing;
  • Digital media; and
  • General commercial issues.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You will be an IT transactional solicitor or trainee in a leading national IT practice at either NQ level or up to 2 years post qualification experience or equivalent.
  • Experience of working on secondments and/or in-house positions will be an advantage.
  • You will need exceptional communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • We see it as vital that our lawyers have a good understanding of and personal interest in the technologies that our clients are developing and using, as well as the industries in which our clients operate.
  • You will need to have demonstrated this understanding in your current role, by reference to the number and complexity of IT transactions undertaken and your commercial approach to those transactions
