Financing Associate 0-3 PQE
We are recruiting into our Financinggroups in London. The roles will form part of our broad multi-specialist Financingpractice and have a wide remit.
Associates will tend to work for partners in their own group, but may also work for partners in other groups to provide a breadth of experience not only in types of work, but also in the different working practices and approach of different partners. It would not be unusual for one of our juniorassociates to have worked on a bilateral loan, a syndicated loan, a highly structured financing using both debt and equity components and quite commonly legal entities in multiple jurisdictions or some more specialist financing work, such as a securitisation or project financing.
The transactions we work on are generally challenging and sophisticated.We do, however, aim to give associates as much responsibility and client contact as they are ready for. Junior associates may take the lead either on the transaction as a whole or a part of it. If you feel comfortable running a negotiation/meeting alone, the partners will be keen to encourage you.
We recognise that individuals all need to develop at their own pace so your progress andworkload will be continually monitored and reviewed with your mentor partner.
Group structure of our Financing practice
Our Financing practice is divided into three groups with around 5-8partnersand 20-30 associatesin each. As an associate with us, you will potentially work with any of the partners in your group and also those from elsewhere, giving you the opportunity to see a wide range of working styles and strategic approaches.
The groups all act for a broad range of clients and handle a variety of types of work rather than specialising in one small area. However, each of the three groups does have a slightly different client base and focus: one handles a lot of Debt Capital Markets and Securitisation work, another's focus is Acquisition and Leveraged Finance while the third group has more of a Corporate Recovery and Insolvency slant.This structureleads to more regular client contact and greater involvement in clients’ broader business interests. You will therefore be in a position to build very strong client relationships from a very early stage of your career and to be involved in both the legal and commercial decision-making at some of the largest commercial organisations in the world.Financing Associate 0-3 PQE
Role and responsibilities
Drafting, reviewing and amending the legal and commercial aspects of documentation
Advising onthe financing elements ofa range of corporate and commercial issues
Advising on acquisition and leveraged finance, asset finance, project finance and structured finance
Advising on debt capital market transactions, corporate recovery and insolvency and securitisations
Advising on bank lending of all kinds, including corporate and sovereign
Providing efficient professional support for partners
Developing professional relationships with clients
Supporting the wider team in developing business and raising the profile of the firm
Managing/supervising the work ofothers including trainees.
Key skills and attibutes
Appropriate level of post-qualification experience (we anticipate approximately 0 and 3years) in a City, major regionalor leading international firm
Broad exposure across a range of high value transactions
Previous experience of working on similar scale deals and with a significant levelof responsibility is essential
Ability to draft, advise and negotiate in relation to complex transactions
Demonstrable first rate legal/commercial knowledge
Strong academic background (the equivalent of high 2.1 degree and AAB at A-level) and a demonstrable high level of intellectual analysis
Excellent client relationship skills
Excellent efficiency and transaction management skills
Ability to develop and work in a fast paced, intellectually challenging environment
Resilient under pressure with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Experienced in running negotiations/meetings under minimal supervision
High level of professionalism and integrity; displayingthe highest standard of professional ethics
Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture.
Financing Associate 0-3 PQE
One of the distinguishing features of the firm is that we do not operate an "hours" culture; we have no targets set by reference to time recording or billing. Associates frequently comment on how liberating this can be; it enables them to focus on providing the best possible service for the client regardless of how long that might take. It also helps foster a collegiate and non-competitive culture in which you will feel comfortable both asking for advice and offering support to your colleagues.
Transactional work is notorious for its "peaks and troughs" and that will be your experience with us. However, during the quieter periods, we will expect you to make the most of your downtime - to get away on time in the evenings, take the opportunity to use the gym a bit more or simply allow yourself the luxury of taking more time on the work you have. We simply don’t have a culture of "face time".
The vast majority of the work undertaken in the Financinggroups is international.
Approximately 60% of our new clients each year are based overseas andthe nature of our domestic client base is such that most of them have considerable overseas interests.

Your professional development
We run extensive legal and skills training programmes to support all our associates at every stage of their career.
The annual legal training programme for junior associates offers over twenty courses. Courses are delivered by partners, associates, support lawyers and sometimes external speakers which ensures that they are founded on deep experience and are focused on the requirements of modern City practitioners. The topics covered are broad and courses generally include both presentations and interactive workshops. They aim to give the associates a real-life overview of how a transaction might run from start to finish e.g. what strategies the other side might employ and what the market norms are at the time, as well as looking at the detail of the transaction documents.
There is a programme of interactive roundtables for our senior associates and this covers interesting and relevant topics in more depth.
Business skills training
We have two skills training programmes.
Our programme for junior associates, OneGoal, focuses on developing the practice and people skills they need to succeed in their careers. We aim to run about 10 courses a year which are delivered by a combination of internal and external speakers. There are courses on negotiation, persuading and influencing and working effectively.
The Associate Leadership Development Programme is for our more senior associates and is designed to build on the foundation skills developed on the OneGoal programme. The programme is modular and covers business development, client relationship management and leading people. These courses, which are held off-site, are interactive and led by internal and external specialists.
