Job Description

Commercial & Technology Solicitor 3-7 PQE, Birmingham

Are you looking to work in a collaborative team environment where your contribution is really valued? Are you keen to develop your career within a global law firm that offers clear progression opportunities but still values its regional roots? Then this could be the role for you.

We’re looking for a 3-7 PQE (or equivalent) associate to join our highly successful Commercial, Intellectual Property & Technology team in our Birmingham office.

We offer a competitive benefits package, including a strong pension.

Our Team

With offices in Birmingham, Leeds, London and Manchester, we act for a broad range of small and medium sized entities as well as large UK and international companies doing business both within and outside the UK. We act for clients across most industry sectors, although we are particularly well-known for financial services, advertising and media, IT, retail and healthcare and we support them with all of their requirements for commercial contracts, IT, IP and data protection advice.

The UK team is made up of over 30 lawyers, which gives us the ability to handle transactions of any size.   However, the teams in each individual office are also small enough to ensure that you never feel like you are lost in a large and impersonal machine. Complementing our strong UK domestic practice, our global practice comprises over 120 lawyers and our expertise and experience in acting on cross-border and international transactions is second to none.

Our Opportunity

The role involves working on commercial contracts for the procurement and supply of goods and services of all types, from the drafting and negotiation of complex multi-million pound contracts for the management and operation of hospitals to simple queries about the enforceability of liability caps and everything in between. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience advising on IT and data protection issues, both of which are areas where the firm is seeing significant growth. However, whilst we are looking for someone with a broad range of skills and experience, if you have a particular interest in one or more of these practice areas, we can adjust the mix of work accordingly.

You’ll be working with some extremely well-respected partners nationally and internationally, being part of a team that encourages personal skills development and growth and which we believe really stands out from the rest of the market.

This is a very exciting time to join not only the Birmingham team but also the firm as a whole. Our expansion over the past few years means that we are dealing with any increasing amount of international work from some very high profile clients, but we have also maintained our ties with the local economy. You can therefore be sure of an extremely diverse range of work.

We are looking for lawyers who are technically strong and have a good grounding in some or all of the areas of work identified above. However, we do not expect you to be an expert at everything – the ability and willingness to learn is much more important to us than having an encyclopaedic knowledge of caselaw.
